One Step Closer to Peace: KTO Announces Top 5 Peace Themed Destinations in Korea

Following the positive ties between the South and North Korea, Korea’s history and DMZ have also gained much attention internationally. DMZ, a constant reminder of separation and war, is now accepted as a symbol of peace. For those who wish to learn more about Korea peninsula’s painful history and share the people’s hope for peace, the Korea Tourism Organization has announced their top five picks for peace themed destinations.

1. Ganghwa Peace Observatory

Admission: 2,500 won (Adults), 1,700 won (Teenagers), 1,000 won (Children) | Telescope 500 won

Ganghwa Peace Observatory, offering views of North Korea’s mountains and vast grass field. Nearby the observatory is Gyodong-do, a village formed by people from Hwanghae-do who fled south from war. After the separation, the villagers had no choice but to remain and make the place their new home.

2. Imjingak Pyeonghwa-Nuri

Open 24 hours, All Year Around
Admission: Free

Imjingak Pyeonghwa-Nuri, spacious park with a grassy hill, located within Imjingak Resort in Paju. The establishment of Imjingak Pyeonghoa-Nuri has turned the area that was once scarred with a painful past into a beautiful and exotic park.

3. Cherowon Korean Worker's Party Headquarters

Open 24 hours, Admission is Free

Numerous sacrifices were made at this building since from the 8.15 liberation movement the Korean War. The place now serves as a venue for peace ceremonies and even featured in a music video by Seo Taiji, popular Korean musician.

4. Dutayeon Falls

Operating hours: Nov-Feb (9:00-16:00) / Mar-Oct (9:00-17:00)
Admission: Adults 3,000 won / Children 1,500 won

Dutayeon Falls, a body of water formed by creek waters from Geumgangsan Mountain. Located only 32-km away from Geumgangsan Mountain, Dutayeon Falls offer a habitat for Korea’s largest lenok population, which are a species of freshwater fish under the official monitoring and control of the Korean government.

5. Goseong Unification Observatory

Operating hours: Nov-Feb (9:00-15:50)
Admission: Adults 3,000 won / Teenagers 1,500 won

Goseong Unification Observatory offers a clear view of the road leading to Geumgangsan Mountain. Near the observatory is Goseong DMZ Museum, where visitors can take a closer look at the surrounding nature and Korea’s history.

The award-winning long-haul low-cost carrier AirAsia X has made its maiden entry to the South Korean Island of Jeju on 12nd December 2017 following the successful landing of flight D7 501 on Airbus A330-300 at Jeju International Airport, making it the only airline with DIRECT CONNECTIONS between Kuala Lumpur and the beautiful largest island off the coast of the Korean Penisula.

Jeju island is AirAsia X's third destination in South Korea after Seoul (Incheon) and Busan. This latest route will also strengthen the AirAsia and AirAsia X Group position in South Korea market by having a total of 75 weekly flights and 1,183,468 capacity a year for one way flight.

And I hope that the two nations will experience a growing number of travelers while expanding exchange and cooperation for joint prosperity. Truly hoping that Malaysia and Jeju will build a lasting friendship, the Jeju special self-governing province will actively support this."

Jeju is a beautiful volcanic island located 64kms south of the Korean Peninsula. It is the country's most popular holiday island and home to the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Jeju Island and Lava Tubes" which consists of Mount Halla, the highest mountain in South Korea and a dormant volcano, Geomunoreum lava tubes and the dramatic landscape of Seongsan Ilchubong tuff cone. A wonderful Korea Drama Night with Sung Hoon + Special guests: The King & Rookie Actors, Lee Pan Do & Ho Seong

In the last week of October, actor Sung Hoon graced Malaysian shores together with uprising K-pop group, The King and also two rookie actors, Lee Pan Do and Ho Seong at 'Korea Drama Night' which hosted by Korea Tourism Organization (KTO).

Thousands of fans swarmed to KLCC Plenary Hall on 28 October 2017 (Saturday), 7pm just to watch Sung Hoon up close. Fans who not able to grab the tickets were seen waited outside the venue just to catch a glimpse of the actor.

If you think Sung Hoon is only good in acting, a big no-no as he surprised the audiences by performing a total of 4 songs, “Pumping Jumping”, “My Style” and drama ‘My Secret Romance’ OSTs - “You are the world of me” and “The Ocean and You”.

Two fans were picked on stage to play games with Sung Hoon during the game session. (ps: Sung Hoon even picked fans from the upper tier *furthest from the stage* which given the chance to every fans at the venue to meet him up close) One of the warm-hearted moments was Sung Hoon trying to solve the issue when three fans instead of two came on stage. Gifts were given to all three fans and Sung Hoon even left his autograph on the photo books. When comes to the photo session, fans showed their desired in hoping to stand right beside Sung Hoon and once again, Sung Hoon switched his position for each fans to have the chance to stand beside him. (ps: such a sweet OPPA)

Other than Sung Hoon, KTO also brought Sung Hoon's labelmates, The King, actors Lee Pan Do and Ho Seong to Malaysia to meet the fans for the very first time. (ps: The King's Bawool studied in Malaysia previously so this was not his first visit~) The King, is a K-pop group who well-known for their popular single, 'The Outline of Love'. (ps: recently, they released the mandarin version of the single)

Surprisingly Lee Pando and Ho Seong sang really well as being an actor. The guests started with collaboration stage where The King’s Bawool and Lee Pando sang drama Goblin's OST, ‘First Snow' followed by The King's ‘Look Back’ and ‘Makes Me High’ performances. The crowd went wild when Sung Hoon joined the stage during 'The Ocean and You' performance. The collaboration stage ended with Lee Pando, Ho Seong and The King's Sejin's 'Blue' performance. (ps: The King live performance was really great too, hope they will comeback and release more songs!)

Before the night ended, Sung Hoon transformed as a DJ and turned the venue into a nightclub. The audiences can't hide but jumping off their seats and followed the rhythm. Thanks to the exciting Sung Hoon DJ non-stop playing the beats during the encore stage, the show was extended to an hour. (ps: thank you for showing your loves to Malaysian fans~ xD)

The surprise is not ended as Sung Hoon prepared a hi-touch session in showing appreciation to the fans who came to the event. (ps: Sung Hoon wore a glove in showing respect to our Muslim friends, He even explained before the hi-touch session that depending on the fans, they can choose to come on stage to greet him without having hi-touch.) We were truly amazed by Sung Hoon's thoughtfulness.

During the 'Korea Drama Night', KTO also announced that next year there'll be direct flight from Johor to Seoul! (ps: Rejoice, Johor people) For your info, 'Korea Drama Night' was held with the main vision to promote Korea culture and hoping to make Korea as the main tourist destination for Malaysian.
